Low Light Alters the Photosynthesis Process in Cigar Tobacco via Modulation of the Chlorophyll Content, Chlorophyll Fluorescence, and Gene Expression

Shading or low light (LL) conditions are a key and necessary cultivation technique in cigar wrapper tobacco production. However, the effect of on photosynthesis is not clear. Therefore, this study designed to know under different intensities (T200, T100, T50 μmol m−2 s−1). The results reveal that light, especially improved interception increased carbon utilization, as witnessed by higher specific leaf area lower weight. Low intensity caused better utilization leaves, thus thinner leaves more able use efficiently. chlorophyll content related process; thus, LL affected process lowering content. Similarly, also altered photosynthetic efficiency QY_Lss, qP_Lss, Rfd_Lss. Additionally, expression Lhcb4.2, Lhcb6, PsbA, PsbB, PsbD T50, shows PSII antenna proteins complex efficiently utilized absorbed energy for photosynthesis. Finally, photosynthesis, particularly attributed downregulation genes NADPH production (petH) rubisco enzyme synthesis-related gene (rbcs) CO2 fixation Calvin cycle. Overall, show decreased which might be petH rbcs genes.
